(chapter one and a bit of chapter three)
Suppose that 11 students take a final exam in both English and Math. Here are there test scores:
English | Math |
---|---|
69 | 81 |
80 | 72 |
84 | 64 |
88 | 62 |
86 | 62 |
78 | 100 |
78 | 72 |
80 | 96 |
81 | 84 |
82 | 84 |
82 | 76 |
If you wanted to compare how well they did on the two tests, would you use a scatterplot or a side-by-side boxplot? What if you wanted to see whether the two scores on the two tests were correlated?
Construct side-by-side boxplots. Also, make a scatterplot.
Compare the mean on the math test with the median. Does this suggest that the scores on the test were symmetric, skewed right, or skewed left?
Are there outliers in the English exam? In the math exam?
If you plot the data, does the slope of the regression line appear to be positive or negative? What does that mean?
